PokerStars Hosted Charity Tournament for Kent Senter

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Kent Senter recently saw a dream come true when PokerStars flew him from Pennsylvania to Las Vegas to participate in the World Series of Poker. Now one might say, ‘well all poker rooms fly players to Vegas for the WSOP if they win a package’. Well Senter was sent to the WSOP because he has multiple myeloma cancer and wanted to participate in the tournament. Now PokerStars is doing even more to help the poker player.

Senter and his family are currently having trouble with the growing number of medical bills they have to pay due to his sickness. So to help out PokerStars decided to run a $10 re-buy tournament this past Saturday at 8pm to help the family with their bills.

PokerStars stated that the illness had left the family two months behind on rent with their television and phone already shut off. Every bit of the buy-in will go to the Senter family and PokerStars is adding an incentive for players to participate.

The winner of the tournament would win a World Championship of Online Poker main event seat and the runner up would earn a seat to the WSOP Academy. Third through sixth place would earn tournament credit vouchers from $200 to $1,000.

Hopefully the event was able to raise enough money to benefit Kent Senter and his family. Medical bills can certainly put a strain on a family and any help that can be received is appreciated. IT was really great of PokerStars Download to go that extra mile and create the special tournament to benefit Senter.

Senter made a great impression on players at the WSOP as well as PokerStars Team members. Chris Moneymaker commented: “Kent is a great guy and has an amazing family. I had the opportunity to spend some time with them during the main event and really enjoyed getting to know them. It’s amazing that PokerStars sees their members struggling and steps up when appropriate to help out.”

PokerStars is the number one online poker room for many reasons but one of the top reasons is the many, many tournaments the poker room hosts. Players have a wide variety of tournaments to choose from especially live events. The poker room has created several poker tours and a new Festival has now been added to the mix.

PokerStars has announced the information for the first annual PokerStars Baltic Festival, a new poker event for the poker giant. The Festival will begin on the 28th of October and continue until the 31st. The Festival will take place in Talinn, Estonia at the Swissotel Conference Center.

The Festival will have a four day Main Event which will have a buy-in of €1,100. Organizers are estimating the prize pool will reach six figures if not surpass to seven. Side events will also take place during the Festival and PokerStars will be releasing that information in the coming weeks.

Online players who are interested in competing in the festival can try their hand at qualifying via satellite tournaments. The satellites start as low as $2.20 and free rolls will also be available. This is a great way for a player to earn a seat to the new Festival for very little money.

Tomas Larsson, the Finland and the Baltic PokerStars Country Manager, commented: “PokerStars has hundreds of thousands of poker players from the Nordic countries, the Baltic States, and Russia, but so far there have only been a few interesting live tournaments.” He also stated: “I am convinced that the PokerStars Baltic Festival will attract players not only from neighboring countries, but from all over Europe, including a number of Team PokerStars Pro members and some of the region’s top players.”
