For the second week since StarPoker upped its guaranteed tournament schedule, the PokerStars.com Sunday Million boasted an outstanding $1.5 million prize pool that attracted enough players to boost the GP to $1,647,200. Congratulations are in order for ‘ziggy47’, who successfully ousted the sizable opposition for the 1st place prize of nearly $200k.

A field of 8,236 took to the tables at PokerStars last Sunday to complete for the awesome prize pool – the largest weekly GP in the online poker industry. The top 1,260 spots would see a piece of the purse, but only the top two finishers would profit in the 6-figure range.

Heads-up action came down to ‘ziggy47’ and ‘puntnko’ as ‘j.thaddeus’ was sent to the virtual rails in 3rd place for an impressive $91,420. Both players flaunted their evident skills throughout the tournament, but the cards fell in the favor of ‘ziggy47’, who came out on top earning $199,476 for his imposing game play.

In the last two months, ‘ziggy47’ has seen several big money finishes at online poker tournaments, including a 3rd place victory for $17,926 on July 29 at PokerStars; a 16th place finish in the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up on July 13th for $2,678, and another $10,803 on June 15th for a 2nd place finish at Full Tilt Poker.

Daniel ‘puntnko’ Kochan has also seen his fair share of big money wins in the online poker world, being one of Australia’s most prominent online poker players. Most recently, Kochan finished 2nd in Full Tilt Poker’s FTOPS IX Event #9 for an awesome cash of $176,719.

Already under the same parent company, Tokwiro Enterprises, popular online poker rooms UltimateBet.com and AbsolutePoker.com have merged to form the CEREUS Network. The two online poker rooms will now share the same software, tournaments and network player base, instantly becoming the third largest poker network on the Internet.

It’s not yet clear how the merging of tournament schedules will be handled. As many of you known, UltimateBetPoker signed elite poker professional Annie Duke to revamp, redesign and expand its poker tournament schedule and payout structure. The endeavor has been very successful thus far, leaving many to wonder whether Duke’s input will roll over onto the new CEREUS Network.

“I am so excited to announce the launch of our new poker network CEREUS,” states Paul Leggett, Chief Operations Officer of Absolute Poker and UltimateBet. “This is a huge landmark for our company and online poker. I’m confident that Absolute Poker and UltimateBet customers will be thrilled by the new platform and we look forward to welcoming many new players from around the world.”

It goes without saying that the merge of Absolute Poker and UltimateBet is a full scale attempt to reinvigorate the reputation and façade of the online poker sites. “Our company’s goal is to provide poker players with the ultimate online experience,” Leggett continued. “The launch of CEREUS is a major step for us in achieving our goal and we look forward to making many more exciting announcements very soon.”

And so history will not be made this summer as WSOP Main Event hopeful Phil Hellmuth busted out Sunday to finish 45th overall. Thus, UltimateBet.com’s Hellmuth will not be breaking his own record of 11 WSOP Bracelets this year, while assuring a new WSOP Champion will claim the crown.

Hellmuth was the last man standing in the 2008 WSOP Main Event who had won the championship previously, back in 1989. It is amazing enough that UltimateBetPoker Pro Phil Hellmuth could outlast such a large field of 6,844 to finish in the 45th spot, solidifying his true abilities as one of today’s most fearsome poker pros.

Phil’s final hand went down with A-Q, pushing all-in with his remaining stack of 405,000 chips. As the cards came down, Hellmuth’s A-Q could not stand against Andrew Rosskamm’s Pair of Jacks. Even with a Flush Draw on the Turn, Hellmuth floated down the River to collect $154,400.

Coincidently, New York’s Andrew Rosskamm was also eliminated later that day, along with Mike Matusow, Garret Beckman, David Benefield and a few other well-knowns.

As the last day of the 2008 WSOP Main Event gets underway, only 27 competitors remain. All eyes remain focused on the three final tables as they slowly dwindle to one, where a single competitor will soon be crowned the 2008 WSOP Main event Champion.

The PokerStar Sunday Million has been one of the most popular weekly online poker events for a very long time, but this weekend was like none other. “TimDawg888” wiped out the largest field of players ever seen in the PokerStars.com Sunday Million and earned himself a massive reward of $297,801 for his skilled efforts.

What would create such a stir and double the normal 1st place prize, you may ask? The PokerStars 2x promotion spanning the entire month of July. PokerStars is randomly doubling just about anything you could imagine at the online poker room through the month, from points rewards to cash game pots and yes – even last Sunday’s $1,000,000 GP was multiplied to a whopping $2,000,000.

As one might expect, this drew nearly the double entries as well. The PokerStars Sunday 2x Million attracted the attention of 14,181 participants. With so many entries, it’s not surprising that it took nearly 10 hours to complete the online poker tournament. In typical PokerStars fashion, the guaranteed prize pool was trumped by the excessive participation from members of the online poker room; so high in fact that the reward nearly peaked at $3 million, but fell just short at $2,836,200.

As it came down to the final table, you can simply imagine the excitement of the remaining 9, knowing the least they could walk away with is in excess of $20,000. When heads-up play finally came down to “TimDawg888” and “xanja”, both had to be pretty pleased with themselves, as the worst possible outcome at this point was a $198k paycheck.

In the end, it was “TimDawg888” who made history by taking down the massive PokerStars 2x Sunday Million, earning the 1st place prize of $297,801. In 2nd place for $198,534 was “xanja”. Overall, the top 2,142 finishers each received their share of the $2.8 million prize pool.

PokerStars 2x Sunday Million – Final Table Results

1st – TimDawg888 ($297,801)
2nd – xanja ($198.534)

Event #25 of the 2008 World Series of Poker - $10,000 World Championship No Limit Heads-Up Hold’em – was looking very good for BodogLife.com Poker Pros Justin Bonomo and David Williams, as both breezed through round one and two of the competition.

The 3-day event saw the first three rounds of play dealt out in the first day, each time cutting the field by half. With the maximum number of 256 players entering the WSOP Heads-Up Championship, the field narrowed to 128, then 64, then again to 32 in a single day.

In round one, Justin Bonomo defeated David Benefield to move on to round 2, where he sent the impeccable skills of Phil Gordon to the rails. At the same time, David Williams was taking down Andrew Rosskamm with quad-9s.

Unfortunately for Justin Bonomo, the end of day one’s round three brought an end to his hopes for the gold Bracelet as well. Defeated by Jason Rosenkrantz, Bonomo finished on day one in 35th position, taking home his $14,438 portion of the $2,406,400 overall prize pool.

David Williams’ streak continued however, as day two kicked off round 4 of the WSOP Heads-Up Championship. Up against David Stern, Williams spared little time claiming the victory, revealing a final hand that outlasted Stern’s pocket Aces.

With 16 players remain, Williams was set to take on Lyle Berman in round 5 of the WSOP Heads-Up Championship. In contrast to his last match-up, Berman vs. Williams was the longest running match of the 5th round, with both chip stacks virtually even after 4 hours of play. The staff actually started the 6th round – the ‘elite eight’ – before the Williams/Berman match was over. After 6 hours, however, Lyle Berman was able to claim the triumphant victory, sending David Williams to the rails in 9th position with a prize of $36,096.
The Bodog.net Poker Pros were out of the running for the bracelet, but when the smoke cleared, it was Kenny Tran who emerged victorious, earning his first WSOP Bracelet and a massive purse of more than half a million dollars.

Full Tilt Poker players are finding more reasons to smile at the online poker room, seeking out “smiley face” icons in the ring games and tournaments lobby to win double, or even triple, the Full Tilt Points. That is precisely what the FullTiltPoker “Happy Hour” promotions is all about.

Members of FullTiltPoker.com will find daily Happy Hour specials at the online poker room. While perusing the ring games or tournaments, all designated ‘Happy Hour’ tables are easily found, as they are marked with a “smiley face” under the ‘Players’ column.

Entering a Happy Hour ring game or tournament automatically awards each player with double, or even triple, the normal Full Tilt Points awarded for the game. All points won in Happy Hour tables are instantly added to your previous points, but players can still keep track of all Happy Hour points by visiting the ‘Happy Hour’ page, under ‘My Promotions’ in the cashier section.

Full Tilt Points can be used in various ways, including entering special ‘points tournaments’ and trading in for merchandise at the Full Tilt Store. As far as online poker rooms go, Full Tilt Poker is perhaps the most famous for its Full Tilt Store, offering a vast selection of awesome merchandise – not just the typical logo-branded apparel – but Plasma TV’s, golf clubs, I-Pods, laptop computers and more.
