The 2009 Poker Ashes tournament, which is sponsored by 888 Poker and Shane Warne, is set to begin on September 30th on the Nine Network. England won the cricket Ashes tournament so Australia is looking to take the win in the Poker Ashes.

The tournament was filmed in London during the cricket Ashes. Five episodes will air nationally on the Nine Network throughout October. It is believed that the airing of the 2009 Poker Ashes will be the first major poker show to broadcast on free-to-air TV in Australia.

Shane Warne created Poker Ashes and it sees the best poker playing cricketers from Australia against their rivals in England. $50,000 is at stake for each team’s chosen charity. The Australia team is competing for The Shane Warne Foundation and the England team will be competing for The Professional Cricketers Association Benevolent Fund.
Shane Warne will be the captain of the Aussie Team which includes Dean Jones, Damien Martyn and Jeff Thomson. The England team captain is Darren Gough and team members are Dimi Mascheranas, Robert Key, Matthew Hoggard, Min Patel, Gladstone Small and Peter Such.

888 Poker offered seats to Poker Ashes for online players who competed in free tournaments at 888 Poker. The two players who won and played on the Australian team were Adam Kloens and John Tanner and they joined the England online winners as the table to compete with the cricketers.

“I always said that if you had to bet your house on it, Australia would win the Ashes, but you wouldn’t be too surprised if England won. Now the Poms have done it and we have the chance to fight back in my Poker Ashes tournament” said Warne.
