“govshark2” Takes 1st Prize In PokerStars Sunday MillionMonday, October 13th, 2008 by t2admin
PokerStars hosted its weekly Sunday Million online poker tournament this weekend with a buy-in of $200, incredibly small compared to the guaranteed prize pool of $1.5 million. A slight overlay was appreciated by the participants, but none so much as “govshark2”, who routed the competition to the very end to claim to 1st place prize of $184k.
As usual, the online poker room attracted thousands upon thousands of entries in the lucrative poker tournament – 7,307 to be exact – but not quite enough to top off the guarantee. Poker Stars.com had to toss an extra $38,600 into the mix to match the guarantee. But fear not; PokerStars won’t be going belly up anytime soon. That figure only amounts to about 1/3 of the profit PokerStars collected on entry fees.
With the dollar signs out of the way for the moment, let’s get down to the real action at the tables. Player by player, table by table, the competition shrunk until even the final table had dwindled to three. With big hopes and lofty expectations, someone would not make it to heads-up play.
That someone would be “trangers15”, whose 3rd place exit was worth a sizeable cash of $84,000. Now with only two players left standing, “princio” and “govshark2” would battle it out, one-on-one, for the impressive 1st place finish.
With no deals on the table, the victor stood to gain $184,500, nearly $60,000 more than the runner up. That’s 60,000 reasons to play your best poker game, and that’s precisely what “govshark2” did. “trangers15” was eliminated in 2nd position for $124,950 while “govshark2” was crowned victor of the PokerStar.net Sunday Million – the world’s largest regularly scheduled online poker tournament.
