Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier Takes Down EPT High-Roller Title in BerlinMonday, April 23rd, 2012 by Ryan
The name Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier goes hand in hand with quite a bit of poker success in his career, both in the online poker world and in the live poker tournament circuits as well. His name is back out there once again currently, as ElkY took down another big time payday and impressive win against some of the stronger names in the game of poker today. While Grospellier was originally considered an online poker superstar, he’s now officially showing year in and year out that his live poker play is just as strong, if not stronger, than his online poker game. This win was at the European Poker Tour’s High-Roller tournament in the EPT Berlin series.
ElkY has not only taken down the High-Roller event at the EPT Berlin now, but also has two EPT Madrid High-Roller event wins, as well as one at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, which is a defacto European Poker Tour event itself. Possibly what made this win even more impressive though is who he was up against in order to win this title, as he definitely had his work cut out for him against some of the best poker talent in the entire world. The final table included some huge talent such as Lock Poker Pro Chris Moorman, online superstar Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, David Peters, Marvin Rettenmaier, Martin Jacobson, and Tobias Reinkenmeier. With all of the big names here it was a final table that a ton of people had their eyes on, as everyone wanted to see which two players would make it through to the heads up match.
It was two of the most well-known at the table who did just this though, as ElkY was now up against Moorman to decide who would take down the championship, and also win the first place payday of €231,000. As previously mentioned though, Moorman would have to settle for second place and a payday of €145,200 for his efforts, as Grospellier got the best of the Lock Poker Pro at the end of the day. Each player at the final table walked away with more than €26,000 for their efforts.
Grospellier has quite a few poker feats in his career so far, and one of them is that he is one of only four players to take down poker’s Triple Crown. The Triple Crown in poker consists of winning a World Series of Poker gold bracelet, a European Poker Tour title, and a World Poker Tour title in their career. In total, ElkY has brought home over $9 million in his career on the live tournament circuit list, which currently puts him in 19th all-time and still looking to work his way up that list. With how strong ElkY has been playing as recent, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see him jump up that list quite a bit after this year’s World Series of Poker and World Series of Poker Europe. My eyes will definitely be on Grospellier this summer as the live poker tournament series’ pick up more and more.
