  • Deep Stack Poker Tour Announced

Friday, December 9th, 2011 by Ryan

It seems that live poker tours seem to be popping up all over the place, and this new one is one of the more interesting ones of the bunch. While the online poker world took a massive hit in the United States after Black Friday, this has been the way to remain in the action in the recent months. While the World Series of Poker occurred soon after Black Friday, it came to an end quickly it seemed for players, and now they are looking for other tours that are traveling around the United States. This is where the Deep Stack Poker Tour comes into play. The tournament series will kick off in 2012, and should feature some of the biggest names in poker as well.

The idea behind this poker tour is that it will offer players affordable buy-ins, but will also give players chances to win some big money in the guaranteed prize pools. There will also be a large number of stops across North America. The events will be exactly what fans and players like to see. It is a combination between large (but not too large) buy-in tournaments, big names, and TV programming so all of the fans out there can enjoy the action. While it is unknown as to which station the events will be televised on, they have announced who will be a part of the commentary for the Deep Stacks Poker Tour events, with Joe Stapleton and Tristan “Cre8ive” Wade set to be the voice of the events.

The opening event for the tour to start Season 1 will feature a $1,500 buy-in, and will run over a five day span from February 15 to February 19. It will be played at Seneca Niagara Casino, in the popular Niagara Falls, New York. As far as the guarantee for the tournament goes, it will be a $200k prize pool. A few of the players who are expected to be taking place in the event include Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, Mike “The Mouth” Matusow, Karina Jett, Adam “Roothlus” Levi, Matt Graham, Randal Flowers, and Justin Smith for starters. These are just the Team DeepStack Pros, so there will definitely be many more well-known players in attendance, as well as many online poker pros who are looking to stay in the action while the dust from Black Friday settles and everything get sorted out.

As far as the additional stops for the tour, it features expectations of tournaments to be played in Nevada, California, New York, Oregon, Canada, and Quebec. There is no full tournament schedule announced, but you can bet that there will be quite a bit of interest surrounding these events regardless of where they are played at. After Black Friday, many of the smaller poker tournament series’ have been picking up steam, and we definitely expect these tournaments to go in a similar direction. These events are great alternatives for players who can’t play online poker anymore, so keep an eye out for a Deep Stack Poker Tour event coming to a city near you!
