  • Early Year Live Poker Tournaments Set to Kick Off

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012 by Ryan

The break from the live poker tournament action is finally coming to an end, and we are set to hit our poker stride for 2012. The brief break came through the holidays to give the players and fans some time to hang out with friends and family. But the players are back out on the tournament trail, and the World Poker Tour, World Series of Poker Circuit, and the European Poker Tour all kick off the action in this first week of the season. So for any players out there who are looking for action, there are more than enough options for you on the board this week.

To start off the action, the World Poker Tour will start tomorrow with their WPT Ireland event, which is hosted by the Citywest Hotel, Conference, Leisure, and Gold Resort in Dublin. This event will run over a four day span, with the final table being televised on Sunday the 8th. It is a €2,500 Main Event, and it will also be the first time this tournament series has ever gone to Dublin. Interestingly enough, this will also be running at the same time that the Irish Poker Championship will be. This tournament series features a number of lower buy-in events that are only ran over a single day of play.

Now for the European Poker Tour. They’ll kick off their year with their most talked about poker tournament on the board, the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA), which kicks off the same as the WPT Ireland does. The series starts with an incredible Super High Roller tournament, that features a $98,500+$1,500 buy-in, and is ran over a three day span. The action for the Main Event ($10k+$300 buy-in), will start on Saturday, and will play it’s final day on Friday the 13th. The PCA features a huge number of events over the next 10 days, so we expect quite a few players to jump in on that action. The PCA will be played at its usual location, the Atlantis Resort and Casino in the Bahamas.

Last but not least is the World Series of Poker Circuit, which will be in California at the Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens. This tournament has already started, and they actually kicked off on the first of the year. There are going to be 12 different Circuit events at this location through the 12th. The Main Event ($1,600 buy-in) starts on the 10th of January, and goes over a three day span. This $1,600 buy-in Main Event is a re-entry event as well, which means that we could see a pretty huge prize pool combined between Day 1A and Day 1B.

So for most of these events you’ll have a few days to get to your preferred destination, and when you are choosing between Ireland, the Bahamas, and California, it seems like whichever decision that you make will potentially be the right one! Keep an eye out for these big time tournaments, and hopefully you can pick up a big score to start off your year the right way.
