Thursday, September 29th, 2011 by Nadia

The PokerStars sponsored mega event, European Poker Tour (EPT), will start on Thursday, September 29. The tournament, which will go on till October 6, will have a total of 31 events. The main focus will be on the Main Event worth £5,250, which will start on September 30. Last year, the event had a total of 848 participants. The title was won by David Vamplew from Scotland.

*Two Casinos to Host the Event *

The Grosvenor Victoria Casino and the Hilton Metropole Hotel of London will host the mega event. Both places have hosted such big poker events before. Majority of the feature events will be held at Metropole. On the other hand, satellite qualifiers and cash games will be staged at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino.

*EPT – A Major Part of the London Festival of Poker *

A prominent part will be played by the European Poker Tour in the London Festival of Poker. Having started in the early weeks of September, the London Festival of Poker featured the European Poker Championships first. The London Festival of Poker was scheduled to end with the WSOPE Main Event. However, with the event being shifted to Cannes, the schedule had to be modified. Phil Hellmuth’s grand entry last year in the WSOPE Main Event held at the Empire Casino is still remembered by many in the poker world. Unfortunately, Phil will not play this year in the European Poker Tour. He will not be in London when the mega event takes place. Daniel Negreanu will be joining the tables along with other prominent players like Viktor Blom, Boris Becker, Joe Cada, BertrandGrospelier, Jonathan Duhamel and Jason Mercier.

*The United Kingdom and Ireland Poker Tour Climax*

The climax of other PokerStars sponsored events like the United Kingdom and Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) will also be provided by the EPT. Three players who play the best in the nine event series will receive season entries to the UKIPT Main Events to be held in 2012. Players who are among the top 100 in the Leader Board Challenge can participate in a £10,000worth freeroll tournament. The winner of the Main Event of the EPT will receive 77.50 points. With these additional points, there is a chance that anyone, currently in the Top 10 list, will qualify for these free-roll tourneys.

*EPT Twitter Wall *

To provide players, social media and spectators with updated information about the events to take place off and on the tables, EPT will feature ‘Twitter Walls‘. Four Twitter Walls, screens with event-related tweets, will be placed in the venues. A special Treasure Hunt game will be conducted on October 2. The player who finds out the secret location will get a chance to participate in a 5 minutes long, heads-up game. The winner will also be rewarded with a £330 seat in a side event called ‘Win the Button’. The event is set to take place in the evening of October 2.

*Other Events *

Although it is the Main Event which draws everyone’s attention, several other events are also included in the EPT. Some of these are – a £20,500 High Roller Event, £550 Women’s Event, £2,150 8-Game European Championship and the £5,250 Heads-Up event.
