Facebook Launches Real Money Gambling ApplicationWednesday, August 8th, 2012 by Ryan
Facebook is one of the most well-known social network options in the world today, ranking right at the top with Twitter. There was some big news to just come out of Facebook though, as they have officially decided to offer a game that will allow players to be able to bet with real money on the site. This means that you are not going to have to play with the in-game currency that is offered through the site, or Facebook credits either. This is the first time it has ever been offered on Facebook, and although the site does offer different poker and “gambling” options, it’s not really gambling unless you are risking something while playing!
The game that Facebook is going to be offering their players will be called Bingo Friendzy, and is created by a company out of London called Gamesys. While it’s not quite poker, which is what many people were obviously hoping for, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction for online gamblers, especially the poker players out there. Poker players will definitely get a kick out of this game as well, and it also shows that we are stepping in the right direction towards getting online poker completely legalized (specifically in the United States). Currently, this new online bingo game is available to any players in the United Kingdom, and players have to be over 18 years old in order to play.
If you feel that you may have heard of Gamesys before, there’s a good chance that you have. The creators of the game have also created games such as Jackpotjoy Casino and Jackpotjoy Slots, which are both applications on Facebook as well. Interestingly, the only way that you can play this game on the internet is through Facebook, so if you are interested in checking it out then you have to create an account and download the application.
In order for players to play, users are going to have to verify identities in order to make sure that they are above the age of 18, and also that they are located in the United Kingdom as well. Facebook is massive, and currently has a technology that is called “age-gating”, that is going to make sure that underage users are not going to be able to see the Bingo Friendzy activities that their friends have been involved with. This means that if you are under 18, that you will not be able to see information about one of your friends and their Bingo Friendzy play who is over 18.
If things do end up working with Bingo Friendzy, then it could definitely lead to some additional real-money games to be released on Facebook. If you hadn’t heard yet, Zynga poker has recently attempted to open a tender in order to get real money poker going with different developers. These developers include GTECH G2, Microgaming, Intralot, and Playtech. While Zynga poker is the most popular type of application on Facebook, it is currently a play-money game, and still draws in over 100,000 players per day just in that one game.
