The International Federation of Poker is one of the newest poker events out there, and it will kick off its first event in London with a very different form of play. The event is called the Nations’ Cup, and will feature different teams with some of the top players in the game. The idea behind this tournament series is that there are different teams who will play in this cup, and each team will be broken down into rosters with some excellent players. The thing that makes the tournament so different than many others, is the format that it will have entering the Nations’ Cup on November 17th.

The format is considered duplicate poker, which is an interesting new concept which should draw quite a bit of attention from the poker world. The format will feature each table being dealt the exact same hands, and players will then receive points based on their ability to play the hand that is given to them. It will match up the players at different tables, and compare their play in many different ways. The idea behind this type of tournament will make it so that players and fans get to see how important skill actually is in the game of poker. We will take a look at the different teams below.

Team USA is probably the popular pick of most to lead the field in the end. They have a star studded lineup who is led by Barry Greenstein; a player who is fresh off of his 2011 Hall of Fame induction. They also have professional players like Vanessa Selbst, Matt Matros, Antonio Esfandiari, and Ali Eslami. To top it off, the strong team USA also has online poker pros Jennifer Leigh and Isaac Haxton to round out their lineup.

They won’t have any easy walk to a title though, as they’ll be matched up with strong teams including the United Kingdom’s team, that has Barny Boatman, Main Event final tabler Sam Holden, Jake Cody, James Akenhead, Sam Trickett, Liv Boeree, and JP Kelly. Team United Kingdom has some of the hottest poker players on the planet right now, and their team could definitely over take team USA as a fan favorite.

Team Ireland will feature Padraig Parkinson, a father-son combo of Donnachea and Eoghan O’Dea (who is fresh off of a Main Event final table), Marty Smyth, Dermot Blain, Cat O’Neill, and Andy Black. There will also be teams from many other countries starting with France, with Fabrice Soulier, David Benyamine, and Nicolas Levi. The Germany team will be led by Sandra Naujoks and Sebastian Ruthenberg, the Netherlands team will be led by Rolf Slotboom, Marcel Luske, Noah Boeken, and Rob Hollink. There will also be teams from Spain (Raul Paez, Juan Maceiras, and Leo Margets), Australia (Mel Judah, Tony G, and Marsha Waggoner), Brazil (Felipe Ramos, Christian Kruel, Alexandre Gomes, and Andre Akkari), and Japan (Gen Watanabe.

The one team who will draw quite a bit of attention, is a team called the “Team Zynga Poker”. This team is led by Jennefer Gallenberger, and many of the players on this squad will be playing in their first live tournament action ever. This one should have some fast growing interest surrounding them, and they are a team who could cause fits for the other teams as well.
