  • Jonathan Duhamel Assaulted In His Own Home?

Here’s a bit of news that you typically won’t find coming out in the poker world. It was recently found out that one of the young and up and coming names in poker, Jonathan Duhamel, was the target of an assault on Wednesday morning. His home was also the target of a home invasion, and it was said that it was actually an armed assault that he was the target of. One person was attacked during this invasion, but no one has really come out and said anything about Duhamel except for his agent. Jonathan’s agent stated that he was injured during the incident, and actually said that it was quite severe. Fortunately for Duhamel, he didn’t suffer any serious injuries, and his agent, Phillipe Jette, made a statement that about summed up the situation. He said that “getting out of bed will be particularly hard tomorrow and that his Christmas photos won’t be the prettiest”.

The story behind this is that two men went up to a house in Boucherville on Wednesday morning at 9:15am. They did not attempt to break in, but rang the door bell. After the door was open, the two men assaulted the person, and it is being called an “armed assault”. In the report that was released, there is nothing saying whether anything was taken from the house or the person, which makes this story a bit more confusing. It would seem that there was someone out to go after Duhamel, unless something actually WAS taken during the assault. Duhamel hasn’t been active at all on Twitter since Monday, and the thought of Duhamel being the target of a robbery is possible.

Duhamel is considered one of the more popular young poker players for a few reasons, but the key one is of course his 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event win. Duhamel is a Team PokerStars Pro as well, and you can find him playing many different things online, including the big time poker tournaments on the massive site. Since winning $8.9 million during the Main Event, he has played poker all over the world, and has taken down some nice scores on the way to winning an additional $600k in live poker tournaments since his biggest win.

Duhamel would not be the first well-known poker player to be a part of an attempted robbery or assault of some sort. You can find a story in in Doyle Brunson’s autobiography about a time that he was a part of an assault and home invasion. Brunson has won two Main Event Championships in his career, and is definitely one of the most well-known and popular players in the world. Another player who was a part of a robbery is Greg Raymer, who won the 2004 WSOP Main Event. Raymer had to fight off a robbery at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, and there have been a few other players who have told stories about being attacked in Las Vegas.

It will be interesting to see what other information comes out about this home invasion/assault on Duhamel.
