About one week ago, Jose ‘Nacho’ Barbero earned the Latin American Poker Tour Punta del Este title win when he outlasted the field of 306 players in the tournament. Barbero is a PokerStars pro and he became the first pro ever to win a LAPT event.

The LAPT Punta del Este event was a huge success with the prize pool reaching over one million dollars. Forty eight players cashed out in the event and Barbero earned $279,330 for his first place finish. The tournament had a buy-in of $3,700 and by the end of day one only 145 players remained.

After day two, twenty four players remained and by the end of day three the final table was set with eight players returning on day four. The first to go from the final table was Roman Saurez when he went up against Jose Barbero’s A-7. Saurez held A-5 but it was not enough to stay in the competition.

Saurez was followed by Bernardo Dias who went out after going up against Andres Korn. Barbero would know out the next competitor, Marco Caicedo in sixth place and he would be followed by Daniela Zapiello in fifth place.

Zapiello would be followed by Norbert Ludger and then Andres Korn to leave Nicolas Cardyn and Barbero in heads up play. Barbero would have a huge chip lead, 4.3 million to 1.7 million held by Cardyn. Cardyn would take a leap and he would fail, losing a large portion of his chips. The next time Cardyn went all in it was all over. Barbero’s A-10 made the better hand than Cardyn’s A-K.

Final Results:
Jose “Nacho” Barbero      $279,330      Argentina
