Online poker room PKR has teamed up with Matchroom Sport to bring a special live tournament to London in October. The tournament is called the PKR Heads Up Grand Slam and will take place on October 8th to the 10th.

The special tournament will take place at 3 Mills Studio and will be an invitational event. thirty two players will be invited to compete for the top prize of the tournament, $100,000. The prize pool will be $350,000 and PKR will be adding $30,000 to the pool.

PKR and Matchroom Poker have placed names in a hat that are willing to participate in the tournament. Jesse May, the Voice of Poker, will be drawing names from the hat on September 7th and the names drawn will be announced on the PKR and Matchroom Poker websites.

Those willing to participate and whose names are in the hat are: Tom Dwan, Luke ‘Full Flush’ Schwartz, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Vicky Coren, Annette Obrestad, Nam Le, Sammy ‘Any Two’ George, JC Tran, Andrew Feldman, Roland de Wolfe and Roberto Romanello. More pros will be announced this month and six players will be able to qualify online through satellites that will take place at PKR.
The Managing Director of Matchroom Sport, Eddie Hearn, commented: “we have been looking at creating a heads-up event for a while now and I’m excited that we have the formula just right. Shows such as NBC Heads-Up Championship have attracted huge ratings and we expect this event to continue that trend. There will be a plethora of poker talent gathering in London in October and the names that have already committed look to provide a breathtaking line up.”

It will be interesting to see which names will be drawn from the hat by May and who will be matched up to whom. The online qualifiers also provide an interesting twist and it will be cool if one of the online qualifiers manages to outlast the pros and take the top prize of the tournament.
