The Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) Mar del Plata Main Event, sponsored by PokerStar.net, has been scheduled to kick off April 16th, 2009. PokerStars announced the dates for the live poker tournament main event in Argentina, in a press release over the weekend.

The $5,200 buy-in event will begin April 16th with a 600 player entry cap. Scheduled for 4 days of unbridle poker action, LAPT Season 2’s Grand Final will finish up on the 19th with a winner crowned.

PokerStars LAPT Season 2 has already awarded more than $1.5 million in overall prize pools throughout the poker tour. Last month, the LAPT saw a historical moment take place at Fabian Ortiz became the first Latin American to claim a LAPT Title at Vina del Mar in Chile. Ortiz routed a 216 field to pocket $141,000.

American Ryan Fee won the previous PokerStars LAPT event in San Jose, Costa Rica, besting 314 players in November for $285,000. As many may remember, December’s stop in Mexico was brought to an abrupt halt when authorities raided on Day 1 of the schedule. Remaining players were awarded $5,000 each from the prize pool, and promised the chance to finish the tournament online.

When the PokerStar LAPT Mar del Plata concludes, the series will continue with a stop in Punta del Este, Uruguay.
