  • PokerStars Superstar Showdown #2 – Isildur1 beats Tony G

    Tuesday, January 4th, 2011 by t2admin

The second installment of the PokerStars Superstar Showdown was played on Sunday January 2nd and featured Tony G going up the infamous Isildur1. In the 1st Superstar Showdown Isildur1 ended up losing his match against Isaac Haxton. Isildur1 took an early lead in the 1st showdown against Haxton, but his aggressive nature ended up costing him the victory and about $40K.

For the 2nd Superstar Showdown, Isildur1 and Tony G would be playing 2500 hands just like the first challenge. The two players had to play four tables at once and could choose between NL Holdem and PL Omaha. The stakes on each table needed to be a minimum of $50/$100 although the two players could increase the stakes anytime they wanted too.

The great thing about the PokerStars Superstar Showdown is the fact that the challenge only lasts several hours, which means every player that wants to watch the action can by signing into his or her PokerStars account. Tons of people were watching the action last night and it was a great event.

Tony G jumped out to an early lead in the match and by roughly the 500-hand mark he held a $47K lead against Isildur1. Once Tony G built up his lead he started making use of the chat feature and was typing tons of comments to Isildur1. This didn’t faze Isildur1 though, and it wasn’t long before he started mounting his comeback.

By the time the two players had finished playing 2000 hands, Isildur1 held a commanding lead of $73K and you could tell that Tony G wasn’t playing his normal game anymore. Tony G started venting about the rules of the challenge for the remainder of the event, but he did manage to catch up a bit as well.

When the 2500 hand challenge was complete Isildur1 ended up winning the challenge by almost $45K. This means that Isildur1 is now 1-1 in the Superstar Showdown and has a small profit of a little over $2K. Nobody knows who the next challenger is going to be, but I’m sure everyone is anxious to find out. There is no doubt that this showdown format is a lot better for the fans then the Durrrr Challenge, as it only takes several hours to determine the winner.

You can learn a lot from watching two pros play heads-up poker and this showdown offers everyone the opportunity to do just that. All you need is a PokerStars account so that you can sign into the poker lobby and find the Superstar Showdown tables.
