The main event of the Partouche Poker Tour was a €8,500 No-Limit Hold’em game which resumed mid-November, after a two month break. Sam Trickett, who hails from Nottingham, England, entered the final table game as the chip lead and finished at first place. The event had 579 participants and was held at Cannes in the Palm Beach Casino. Trickett’s total winnings from the event amount to €1,000,000.

Trickett’s Journey to the Final Table

Sam performed phenomenally throughout 2011. He began the year well, after first winning the Aussie Millions main event which was a No-Limit Hold’em game that won him AUD1,525,000. In less than a week, he had also finished as a runner-up at the AUD250,000 Super High Roller Event (No-Limit Hold’em) and won AUD1,400,000.

Over the rest of 2011, he had a few cashes that were chiefly in five figures. This included an 11th place finish at the first Epic Poker League event. After Trickett qualified for the main event of the Partouche Poker Tour in September (2011), he made it to the final table of the EPT’s London High Roller Event (£20,000). He also finished fourth at the WSOPE Pot-Limit Omaha event (€5,000).

His performance at recent final table games led to Trickett being ranked 10th on ESPN’s power rankings. The list which is also called ‘The Nuts’, ranks the current best poker players in the world on a monthly basis. Many believe that he should have been ranked higher.

Key Moments at the Final Table

Trickett began his final table game heading the pack as the chip lead. He began his play on the final day of the tournament as the number one player. However, when he came up against Salman Behbehani in a heads-up play, the tide appeared to have turned. Sam found himself facing a 2:1 chip deficit. Luckily for Trickett, the chip lead flipped back quickly and he was able to make his comeback and win the hefty cash prize that accompanies the title. He took home the championship and €1 million. The other final table players finished with six figure cash prizes.
