  • Team Hellmuth vs. Team Elky in 2011 Caesars Cup

The Caesars Cup is one of the most exciting events to watch and I can’t wait to see what happens this year. The last time the Caesars Cup was up for grabs was in 2009 and the European team beat the North American team. This year the Americans are looking for revenge in Cannes, France. The Americans will be battling it out on European soil this year, but Hellmuth has chosen a team with tons of experience and a massive collection of WSOP bracelets.

The European team is captained by Bertrand Grospellier and he has decided to select young players for his team. This year we’re going to see experience vs. youth in the battle for the Caesars Cup. I love the Caesars Cup because the players always play their best because they want the bragging rights. This isn’t about cash or anything except for bragging rights and both teams are going to want to bring back the Cup for their respective region.

Team Hellmuth (North America)

Phil Hellmuth is the captain on the North American team this year for the Caesars Cup. He decided to choose a great team in my opinion and it includes Doyle Brunson, Daniel Negreanu, Johnny Chan and Huck Seed. The team has an unbeatable resume in the poker world and there is no doubt that they’re going to be favorites to win.

Team Elky (Europe)

Bertrand Grospellier ended up picking Jake Cody, Gus Hansen, Maxim Lykov and Dario Minieri. I like the selections that Elky made and it seems that he put a lot of thought into his selections. He has a lot of heads-up specialists on his team and there will be many heads-up format games running during the Caesars Cup. The European team will be underdogs, but they’ll have the crowd cheering them on and in poker anything can happen on the felt.

The Caesars Cup will take place on October 19th 2011 in Cannes, France and is apart of the WSOPE coverage this year. The event will be aired on television or you can check back here for the results. I like the American team is going to end up winning this year, as Hellmuth doesn’t like to lose and I’m sure he’ll make sure his team is playing up to their level. Hellmuth seemed to go the safe route with his picks while Elky took a bit of a chance on his picks, so it should be interesting to see who comes out on top when it’s all said and done.
