Regardless of what country or even what city that you live in, you can bet that there are probably some live poker games running somewhere near you. Poker has become so incredibly popular in recent years, that most people are surprised to not find a game running each weekend, whether it be a serious game or a game that’s just for fun with some friends. This story shows how important it is to know who’s invited to the games that you are playing in, but also to simply be careful about who you end up telling about the games as well.

This past week, three men were indicted for robbing a private poker game. The game was being ran in Ithaca, New York, and the indictment was made by a grand jury from Tompkins County. As far as the men who were indicted for this, it was three men between the ages of 23 and 26. Eric R. Cruz (23 years old), Antonio C.J. Padin (25 years old), and Robert J. Johnson Jr. (26 years old), ended up being charged with a few different things including Robbery in the First Degree, Burglary in the Second Degree, Robbery in the Second Degree, and Conspiracy in the Fourth Degree. To make the story even more interesting, it seems that there could potentially be two additional accomplices, but no one has been identified to this point.

The game was being played at the Hair Graphics East salon, which is located in East Hill Plaza in Ithaca, and it occurred on November 15th. This poker game was fairly popular, and typically drew in around three dozen players on average. The original report stated that to play in the game there was a “$40 ante”, which we assume means that the buy-in to play in the games was $40. The incident occurred after midnight, and it was said that there were around 12 people remaining in the game at this point. This is when the three robbers game in through the back entrance of the salon with black bandana’s covering their faces. One of the three was said to be carrying a handgun as well, and they ordered everyone to hand over their wallets, money, and cell phones.

Things got a bit strange at this point, as one of the players had a gun pointed at their head, but told the robber to “shoot me, I’m not scared”. This led to the robbers being a bit confused according to the witnesses, and one of the players running out of the back door and shouting for the police. The robbers then took off and were heading towards a silver Nissan, but didn’t make it before one of them was hit in the head with a soda bottle by one of the players. The robbers were then caught about seven miles down the road by police, and the three men were arrested.

The final arraignments for the men are set for January 6th, and with the total number of charges against the three men, it is projected that they could be looking at jail time ranging between 12 years to 59 years when all is said and done.
