  • WSOP Main Event, Friday Night

Sunday, August 6th, 2006 by Mike

By Friday night, there were only 595 players remaining in the 2006 World Series of Poker out of the 1,159 that started off the day. 8,700 total entries were received this year, blowing away the 2005 World Series of Poker. Entering Friday’s competition of the 2006 World Series of Poker, Team Bodog had 34 members still in the running for the $12 million grand prize. They took a huge hit however later in the evening with the ousting of big name pro Josh Arieh.

But Jamie Gold was making up for Josh’s mishap. He held onto the third largest chip count, trailing behind Dimitri Nobles and Josh Lane. Martin Virgen, a previous chip leader of Team Bodog, dropped down to the #72 position.

2006 World Series of Poker favorite Daniel Negreanu appeared to be in trouble with one of the lowest chip counts heading into the wee hours of Saturday morning.

Bodog.com, the online gaming giant and leading online gambling brand, qualified over 400 poker players for the Main Event and more than 500 players overall for the World Series of Poker. Team Bodog players earned one of the coveted $10,000 Main Event seats by winning online tournaments in the Bodogpoker Room. Along with entry into the WSOP, members of Team Bodog won a prize package consisting of airfare, accommodations, Bodog gear and access to the Bodog Lounge.
