Wynn Resorts & PokerStars Announce New PartnershipFriday, April 1st, 2011 by t2admin
In somewhat shocking news to a lot of people, Wynn Resorts and PokerStars have just announced a new partnership. Initially the two companies need to work with the US government on passing new federal legislation clearly defining illegal internet gambling and once that’s done the two companies plan on operating the 1st ever 100% legal poker site in the United States. There is still a lot of work to be done before we see the 1st ever legal online poker site in the USA, but this is a sign that it’s coming soon.
The two companies announced that once they can get the proper legislation passed they’ll operate under PokerStarsWynn.com and it’ll be completely legal for US residents to play against each other on the site. The great thing about this news is that the poker room would be legal and regulated in the USA, which would mean that US residents would finally have a poker room to play in where they don’t need to worry about playing illegally.
PokerStars has always supported regulation and they hope that the USA is finally ready to regulate online poker. Many European countries regulate online poker and it has proven to be a huge success. More jobs will open up with the regulation of online poker in the USA and it’ll also provide a lot of tax dollars that the country is currently losing to other countries. If this deal is completed and the poker room opens, US players will be moved from the current PokerStars site to the new site.
Paying taxes on online poker winnings isn’t something that some people are going to be happy with, but the majority of the country will benefit from having online poker regulated. There will be no more processing problems to worry about and there will be no need to worry about not receiving payouts since PokerStars has the best reputation in the industry. If this new partnership works out it’ll be interesting to see whether or not any other partnerships form between US companies and poker rooms.
I’m sure the US won’t allow other poker rooms to open in the US legally at first while they test everything out, but in the future I’m sure there will be more than one option for US players that want to play legal online poker. Millions of people play online poker in the USA currently and once it becomes legal I’m sure that number is going to grow at a rapid pace. We’ve already seen the success of regulating online poker in European countries and it’s time that the USA makes its move.
