  • Tips For Playing the Pros

Obviously playing against a professional poker player doesn’t necessarily mean that you are playing against Phil Ivey or Daniel Negreanu. There are all different levels of professional poker players, but someone who plays poker professionally is really someone who makes a living from playing it. Now, you may have absolutely no idea if you are up against a pro or not, but on many online poker sites they actually label many of their pros. More importantly though if you are playing live poker players will chat and you can probably find out pretty easily if a player is a professional or not. So it poses the question, how should you really play against pros? Well, there are a few things to consider and ways that can put you in a good spot to bring in a profit against them, and that’s what we’ll look at today.

Be Confident

Confidence is key in anything relating to poker. If your opponent can see the sweat dripping off your forehead and your hands shaking, then they are probably going to come right at you and not stop until they have all of those chips that are in front of you. If you are confident at the table and you let the players know that they can’t push you around, then it’ll get you much further than sitting back and just being nervous about every single hand that you play. If you make a bet, be confident. If you re-raise, be confident. If you bluff, be confident. Heck, even if you are just folding your hand, do it in a confident way!

Don’t Be Dumb

Pretty simple right? Well, the best way to not be dumb is to not JUST attempt to put a push on the pro at the table. There are always those few players who love to try to be the ones who take huge pots from the pros, but actually end up losing a ton in the end. Play smart and play your game, and if you do that and remain confident then you’ll find that the big pots will come, and whether or not they are against the pro, the real question is who cares! You are still making money, and if you don’t make dumb plays you are likely to make some cash at the end of the day.

Don’t Give Anything Away

You never want to give any tells to players at the poker table, but you ESPECIALLY never want to give away the tells to a professional poker player. A pro will be looking for reads on you all day, and you have to be make sure that you are changing up your playing style consistently. Keep them on the edge of their seat and wondering what you are doing, and you’ll find that you are one step closer to being able to come home with a profit against a player who plays this game for a living! If you feel that you have given away a read, then change up your style of play!
